The Russian football season is back on a loud note

The Russian football season is back on a loud note. After the resumption of the Tinkoff RPL tournament, several really bright matches have already been played. The main poster of this weekend will certainly not leave indifferent fans, for whom most of the restrictions on going to the stadium have been cancelled.

This time Lokomotiv hosts CSKA in Cherkizovo. The army team came out of the winter break, reinforced by legionnaires. And Lokomotiv, on the contrary, at the end of February head coach Markus Gizdol left without warning, but the club’s sports director Thomas Zorn noted that none of the players plans to follow his “example”, which inspires optimism regarding the railwaymen’s tournament prospects.

On the eve of the “derby” with the army team, Lokomotiv CEO Vladimir Leonchenko commented on the state of affairs in the team, noting that the club continues to implement the development strategy and is not going to deviate from the course of rejuvenating the squad. According to Leonchenko, the emphasis is on the development of the academy, the pupils of which are involved in the game of the main team.

This Saturday, Lokomotiv players will be watched by female teammates who beat women’s CSKA in a test match in February. The presentation of the “railway girls”, during which new players will be awarded club shirts, will take place before the derby.

2021 was a truly triumphant year for the “railroad women”: the girls won the Super Cup and the Cup of Russia, and five rounds before the end of the Super League they won the gold of the national championship.

At the end of the championship, the club again attracted attention with a transfer – Loko defender Alsu Abdullina moved to London Chelsea. This is undoubtedly an indicator of the level of not only the player, but also the club.

And this is another reason to pay attention to women’s football, which is gradually gaining popularity. The Russian Cup final between Lokomotiv and Zenit was broadcast live on Match TV, the new season of the Women’s Super League, which starts on March 14, will also be available to fans on the channels of the Match system and online.
