Gretzky explained the call to ban Russians from playing MFM with Ukrainians living in Canada
Four-time Stanley Cup winner, former Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky explained the call to ban the Russians from playing at the World Youth Championship (MFM) in Canada. His words are quoted by The New York Times.
Gretzky said he was thinking about the large number of people of Ukrainian origin who live in Canada. “There is common sense that now we should not participate in competitions with this country,” he considered, adding that until the last he did not want punishment for the Russian youth team.
On February 27, Gretzky announced the advisability of banning the Russians from playing at the World Youth Championship in Canada. Gretzky felt that the Canadians should take on such a responsibility, since the matches will be held on the territory of the country.
The World Cup is due to take place in August 2022. The tournament originally started in December 2021, but was canceled due to the coronavirus.
