Croatian Zenit defender Dejan Lovren opposed the limit on foreign players in Russian football. His words are quoted by Sport24.
The 32-year-old legionnaire is convinced that the restriction on the number of foreigners hinders the development of Russian clubs. Teams cannot invite many strong players from abroad. “If a few more places for legionnaires were added, the level of the clubs would have increased,” Lovren said.
“Lovren also noted that the growth of the level of domestic teams is a complex issue. How can the situation be improved? This is a conversation for three hours. Minimum, ”said the Croat.
In August, the Russian Football Union proposed to waive the limit on legionnaires. Now in the elite division of domestic football there is a limit on the number of foreigners in the application according to the formula “8 plus 17” (eight foreigners and 17 players with Russian citizenship). The limit has been in effect in various forms since 2005.
