UEFA and FIFA refused the RFU in the accelerated consideration of appeals of the removal of the national team and clubs
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) have denied the Russian Football Union (RFU) an expedited procedure for considering an appeal against the suspension of the Russian national team and clubs. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
Both cases will be heard in the usual way. By March 21, the RFU must send a full complaint to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) about the suspension of Russian teams. Feedback from FIFA and UEFA will follow within 20 days. The RFU considered that with a positive outcome of the case, the Russian team would retain chances to play in the play-offs for the right to get to the World Cup in Qatar.
The filing of an appeal with CAS became known on March 7. A day later, the court accepted it.
Due to FIFA and UEFA sanctions, the Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team was supposed to participate in the play-offs for reaching the World Cup, but the national teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden expressed their unwillingness to play with Russian players.
