They don’t get it. Russians watch TV and don’t even believe their own son

– I was born in . But out of 37 years of my life, I spent 24 in. My children were born here, and I am also a Ukrainian myself. I’m not going to stand aside right now and look at all that is happening here -.

The war in Ukraine. “They still don’t believe it. And that’s the saddest thing.”

Aliyev is a former football player and 28 times representative of Ukraine. He ended his career a year ago and stayed in Kiev. He did not return to Russia, where his parents still live. – At the beginning I still talked to them, but now we have stopped. They don’t believe me. Even the fact that they were shooting at me, that I was under the bullets. They watch TV in Russia and see everything completely different. That we have fascists, Nazis and looting here – says Aliyev.

– Yes, we have looting in Kiev and we are trying to fight it. I told my parents what I see here every day and they still don’t believe me. And that’s the saddest thing. But I’m not going to prove anything to anyone anymore. I want my children to live in peace here. Instead of tears in their eyes, I want to see a smile and joy – adds Aliyev.

Aliyev’s children had already left Kiev, but he stayed and joined the territorial defense. – I grabbed a rifle, I sleep about four hours a day and this is my reality. It was terrible when my kids cried and said to me, “Dad, we’re scared.” It hurt a lot to watch what had happened earlier in Donbas. But now I saw it all with my own eyes, my children saw it too. Of course, the war in Donbas was also terrible, but now it is already waged across the country. That is why my task was to send the children to a safe place, and now there is a fight to defend Ukraine – concludes Aliyev.

“What do we really believe?”

Russian propaganda depicts the war in Ukraine falsely. He himself does not even call it a war, but a special operation. Unable to win at the front, he tries to defeat Ukraine at least on his own television, where he persuades people with all his might that there are some Nazis in Ukraine. But this is nothing new, because for years, among others, the – a former Russian chess player who has long predicted Putin’s moves.

Kasparov also looks for problems in the functioning of the state in the society itself. The fact that many people really believe in the regime’s history served to citizens by the only righteous authority. – There is also a large group of people who pretend to believe the authorities out of fear. And then there are those who may or may not believe, but their ambition and mindset to survive, and especially to prosper, push them to demonstrate their faith in false narratives – in the New York Times essay “Big Ideas” “, where the writers answered one fundamental question:” What do we really believe? “
