Gustavo Alfaro asks for more international friendlies with teams that are ‘superior’ to Ecuador

The Tricolor coach reveals that a “very important” team spoke to him to play a friendly match before the Qatar World Cup.

“Things in favor, things against, things in the debit”. These were the conclusions that Gustavo Alfaro expressed in a press conference after Ecuador’s game against Mexico, in an international friendly that was played on Wednesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina (United States). The Tricolor coach not only projects possible new additions to the star squad ahead of the double date of the tie in November, but also aspires to play verifiable matches before the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“Hopefully we can have the opportunity to play matches internationally, because it is a way to put Ecuador in a context of international competition, to go out into the world and compete,” said Alfaro, as he praised the triumph of his leaders by 3 -2 against Tri.

“The other day a very important team told me to play a friendly match before the World Cup. And hopefully we can play with such a team, an important team, prior to a World Cup and that we are classified. We cannot know that, but it is the product of what the boys are doing to try to support Ecuador among the classified teams, in the third place we have (in the tie) ”, revealed the Argentine helmsman.

Ecuador presented a kind of “C team” in the United States, with players competing in LigaPro Serie A and with international Michael Estrada. With that litter of elements from the local tournament, he was able to beat Mexico 3-2, which for its part arrived full of youth.

The goals of the Ecuadorians were achieved by Jhonny Quiñónez (minute 2), Janner Corozo (15) and Walter Chalá (75).

Regarding the international commitment outside the national territory, Alfaro insisted: “Presentations like those of tonight (Wednesday), with a stadium of 50,000 people who were almost all Mexican, and there was also an important group of Ecuadorians who They supported us, it is a test of character, of soccer challenge. We had difficult moments in the game, but I am very proud of the Ecuadorian league players and of what they are doing, because it is the way to put the name of Ecuador in the world soccer context: to go out to face teams that we know that they are superior to us and play them in the way that we can to do things in the best possible way ”.

Against the Aztec national team, Gustavo Alfaro faced his second probationary match since he assumed the reins of the Tri: the first was against Bolivia in Quito, last March. (D)
