Paquetá scores, Lyon beats Porto and leads in the round of 16 of the Europa League

This Wednesday, the Lyon won the Portoaway from home, by 1 to 0, for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League. The Brazilian Lucas Paquetá scored the only goal at Estádio do Dragão.

With the result, the French take advantage for the return clash, which will be played next Thursday, at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, at 17:00 (Brasília). It is worth mentioning that the away goal does not count as a tiebreaker.

However, before the commitment to the continental tournament, Lyon welcomes Rennes, on Sunday, at 13:05 (GMT), for the 28th round of the League 1. Porto, which suffered its first setback after 18 matches, returns to the field on the same day, but at 15:00, when they face Tondela, at home, for the 26th game of the Portuguese Championship.

The game – At the beginning of the match, Lucas Paquetá and Pepe hit their heads in a move and fell, causing a scare. After the shock, luckily, both the midfielder and the defender returned to the pitch with bandages on their foreheads.

In the first half, the home team, under the command of Sérgio Conceição, was pressured by the French team, coached by Peter Bosz. The visitors attacked the opponent at the beginning, building good opportunities to score the net. Porto, however, improved over the course of the game, which was very disputed and intense, and also finished, taking some danger. However, the players went to the locker rooms with the score unchanged despite the goalkeepers’ saves.

Lyon had a leading role at the beginning of the second period and, thus, opened the scoring. At 14 minutes, Karl Toko Ekambi made a good move on the left and activated Moussa Dembélé, who only fixed it for Paquetá. Alone, the midfielder hit left-handed, low, in the right corner of the goalkeeper, guaranteeing the 1-0, after confirmation of VAR.

Five minutes later, the ball hit the Brazilian’s arm, culminating in a penalty. However, after assistance from the video referee, the decision was cancelled. Porto evolved in the final stretch and even drew in stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed for offside. In this way, the balanced duel on Portuguese soil ended with the victory of the French by the minimum score.

Frankfurt beats Betis

Also this Wednesday, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Real Betisaway from home, by 2 to 1. The match was played at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Filip Kostic scored the first for the Germans in the 14th minute of the first half, but saw the temporary equality conquered by Nabil Fékir in the 30th. However, Daichi Kamada scored the last goal of the game two minutes later and sealed the triumph for the visitors. The difference, however, could be even greater, as Rafael Borré missed the penalty early in the second half.

With the victory, Frankfurt takes advantage of Deutsche Bank Park. The return game will be played next Thursday, at 17:00 (Brasília time).

Before the duel, Eintracht welcomes Bochum, on Sunday, at 1:30 pm (GMT), for the 26th round of the Bundesliga. Betis face the Athletic Bilbaoat home, at 12:15 pm, for the 28th LaLiga.
