Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) Islam Makhachev assessed his chances in a possible fight with Brazilian Charles Oliveira. His words are quoted by ESPN MMA.
The 30-year-old Russian is convinced that he is superior to Oliveira in the fight on the ground. “I can’t say how dangerous it is. Yes, he has a good strike, he improved in Thai boxing. But in the fight against me, he has nothing to do. In my gym, I fight with the best wrestlers and grapplers, ”said Makhachev.
The Russian won ten consecutive victories in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has repeatedly stated his readiness to fight for the lightweight champion belt of the organization. Oliveira is the current title holder.
On February 26, Makhachev knocked out American Bobby Green in the first round. Initially, Beneil Dariush was supposed to be his opponent, but he pulled out of the fight due to an injury.
Makhachev trains under Khabib Nurmagomedov and Javier Mendez at the American Kickboxing Academy. The Russian is one of the students of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
