Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov said that the national team retains a chance to participate in the selection for the 2022 World Cup. It is reported by TASS.
According to him, the match against Poland can take place if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decides in favor of the Russian national team. At the same time, Koloskov noted that the consideration of the case may be delayed.
On March 8, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced that the Polish national football team has automatically reached the final of the qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team was supposed to compete for this right with Russia on March 24, but the match was canceled after the country was disqualified on February 28.
On March 7, the Football Union of Russia filed an appeal in hopes of overturning the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to bar Russian national teams and Russian clubs from international competition. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) accepted the appeal on March 8.
