Onana returns to training for Ajax after serving a nine-month suspension for doping

This Thursday, André Onana returned to training for the main team of the Ajax. The goalkeeper had been suspended in February for doping after testing positive for Furosemide, a diuretic component.

The Cameroonian, who had been training with the under-23 team since September, had initially been suspended for a year. However, later on, the TAS (Sports Arbitration Court) reduced the sentence to nine months.

“Nobody is happy with the situation created by the suspension. But we shouldn’t be naive. André is a fantastic goalkeeper who means a lot to Ajax and he’s in shape. It’s important to have a lot of options at your disposal,” said coach Erik ten Hag.

Onana will be able to wear the Ajax shirt again from November 4th. The Amsterdam team receives the Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday (11/07), at 16:00 (GMT), for the 12th round of the Dutch Championship.

Formed on the basis of Barcelona, Onana has been with Ajax since 2015 and has played 204 matches for the club. He was an important part of the campaign for Champions League 2018/19, when the team reached the semifinals of the competition.
