Premier League suspends contract with Russian broadcaster

The Premier League announced on Tuesday the suspension of its television rights contract with its Russian broadcaster. The measure is a consequence of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.

“The Premier League and its clubs have today unanimously agreed to suspend our contract with Russian broadcaster Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate one million pounds in aid to the Ukrainian people,” announced the organizer of the English championship in a statement.

“The league condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We ask for peace and our thoughts are with all those affected,” added the text released after a meeting in London.

The head of the English football league organizer Richard Masters had already announced last week that the contracts would be reviewed and the British press took it for granted on Monday.
