It is already the 13th day when I defend myself against the Russian invasion. Not only soldiers but also citizens of Ukraine stood up to fight the invader. Many of them signed up for the territorial defense. This also applies to athletes. The brothers Witalij and W³adimir, O³eksandr Usyk, and Vasyl Lomachenko – all put on a uniform, took weapons and tried to repel the invader.

Also women, including sportswomen, fight for their country. One of them is Iryna Galai. She is a Ukrainian climber who went down in the history of this. She is the first Ukrainian to climb the two highest mountains in the world – Mount Everest and K2. She climbed Everest in May 2016 and was the first woman to fly a blue and yellow flag there. However, in July last year, she obtained it without an oxygen mask.

Its next destination was to be Annapurna, the tenth highest peak of the earth (8091 m above sea level). But these plans obviously fell apart because of the war. However, Galai did not flee the country. It decided to actively fight the Russians. He still publishes photos and videos on his Instagram. Until recently, her account was full of photos from her expeditions, possibly promotional materials and the effects of photo sessions. Now she poses for photos in her uniform, behind sandbags.

“It has long been no secret that a sick terrorist governs the country with which we have a common border. Now it is important not to panic, to have a plan for each scenario and be ready to defend your country . You have to show all your skills, strength and courage at home. Glory to Ukraine! ” – she wrote in one of the posts on Instagram. “We will show that we are sisters of the Cossack family” – she wrote under another photo, in which she poses with a rifle. On Tuesday, however, she published a short film on the occasion of Women’s Day. “I hug all my Ukrainian girls,” she wrote in the description.
