The South American Cup, Conmebol’s second most important tournament at the club level, begins this Tuesday with five of the 15 matches that will take place until Thursday and in which 30 teams will try to access the next phase.
The actions will open in Venezuela at 5:15 p.m., with the first leg of the match between the local team Estudiantes de Mérida who receives the Metropolitanos FC from the capital.
The eleventh team from Merida began the Venezuelan tournament with a couple of defeats, while the Metropolitans did so with a victory against UCV, last Saturday, and a defeat against Deportivo La Guaira, another of the Venezuelans who will be in this Cup.
The South American is the parallel competition to the Copa Libertadores. It begins with round-trip matches between four teams from the same country, until the qualifiers advance to the next phase.
Later, those who manage to enter the group stage will meet the eleventh eliminated in phase 3 of the Libertadores playoffs.
For Ecuador, the Mushuc Runa and Liga de Quito teams will participate, in addition to Delfín and 9 de Octubre, which achieved their classification at this stage in the LigaPro 2021.
Mushuc Runa and Liga de Quito open their series this Wednesday, while Delfin and October 9 will close on Thursday.
