The Emilia-Romagna Formula 1 Grand Prix will be held at the Imola circuit three more seasons than planneduntil 2025, the promoter of the world championship of the queen category of motorsport announced on Monday.
“This is consequence of the two successful Grands Prix in Imola during the pandemic and to the inclusion of the race in the championship this year”, explained the promoter in a statement.
Added to the calendar in 2020 after the cancellation of several races due to the pandemic of COVID-19, this year will be played on April 24, replacing the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, absent due to the health situation.
“This is an emblematic circuit which is part of the history of our sport”, congratulated F1 boss Stefano Domenicali.
Mythical name in the history of Formula 1, Imola hosted 27 Grands Prix between 1980 and 2006.
It was on this circuit that the Brazilian Ayrton Senna died in an accident in 1994on a tragic weekend in which also passed away in another crash the Austrian Roland Ratzenberger.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will join another race in Italy, at the Monza circuit, on September 11. (D)
