Jagr estimated Ovechkin’s chances to beat Gretzky’s NHL sniper record

Forward of the Czech “Rytirzhi Kladno” Jaromir Jagr expressed confidence that the forward “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin will beat the record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky for the number of goals in the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported on the league website.

“It’s unavoidable. Ovechkin will eventually overtake Gordie Howe, then Gretzky and become the NHL record holder. I have already spoken about this. He has a signed five-year contract. I think he will do it before the agreement expires,” Jagr said.

Cech also noted that hockey has changed recently. This, according to Jagr, plays into the hands of Ovechkin. “The only thing that can stop him is injuries, but it must be some kind of accident or something like that,” Jagr added.

On March 6, Ovechkin scored his 764th career goal in the NHL regular season and approached Jagr, who is in the third place in the list of the best scorers in history, within two goals.

Wayne Gretzky is the all-time leading scorer in NHL history with 894 goals. Second place goes to his compatriot Gordie Howe, who has 801 goals.
