The clash between Borussia Dortmund and Mainz, which would take place this Sunday, was postponed due to an outbreak of covid-19 in the home team. The match has been rescheduled and will take place on March 16 at 14:30 (Brasília time) in Mainz.
In all, 19 people have tested positive for the virus and are away from the club, including 13 players, Danish coach Bo Svensson and other team employees. Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel claimed that only 14 players were available for play and among them there was no goalkeeper.
Since the Bundesliga rules require at least 16 related players for the duels, and the presence of at least one goalkeeper is mandatory, the league chose to postpone the match.
“Of course it is a pity that the game is postponed. We were looking forward to it. However, fair competition must be ensured. Health always comes first. We wish all affected Mainz players a smooth course and a speedy recovery.” said Borussia Dortmund’s Manager of Licensed Players Sebastian Kehl.
Now, the Auri-Negroes prepare for the confrontation against Arminia, which takes place next Sunday, at 13:30 (Brasília time).
