The Games for Russian Paralympic athletes in Khanty-Mansiysk are planned to be held in the third decade of March. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the acting president of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) Pavel Rozhkov.
“We plan to hold competitions, and they will last three or four days, until the end of March. It is important to take into account the weather conditions that will be in Khanty-Mansiysk, and now it is minus 20 there. And we must take into account the calendar of all sporting events,” said Rozhkov.
According to him, Russian and Belarusian athletes will take part in the competitions, but other countries are already interested in the competition. “The prize amounts will be the same as for the medals won at the Paralympic Games (4, 2.5 and 1.7 million rubles, respectively),” the representative of the RPC emphasized.
The 2022 Winter Paralympic Games officially kicked off in Beijing. Competitions will be held from 4 to 14 March. Athletes will compete for 78 sets of medals in six sports.
On March 3, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) suspended Russians and Belarusians from the Games in Beijing. Initially, the athletes were allowed to compete, but then the decision was changed. The IPC explained that this was done due to massive backlash from foreign federations.
