returned to Norway. On Thursday the jumpers competed in Lillehammer. The biggest winner of this competition was Stefan Kraft. The Austrian won the competition and additionally took the lead in the general classification of the series. Ryoyu Kobayashi was second and Karl Geiger was third. They also had a good result – and they were in the top ten, and four of our jumpers were promoted to the second round.
A sad sight after the Lillehammer men’s competition. Almost no one wanted to see women anymore
Apart from men, women also competed on the hill. The jumpers were to appear right after the jumps. Then there was a rather unpleasant situation from the players’ point of view. Namely, all the fans immediately disappeared. They were no longer going to watch women’s competition. The facility was completely deserted. According to the Norwegian Dagbladet, about 300 fans remained in the stands. Previously, there were 3,000 of them.
– I must admit that I was a bit sad when I saw that everyone was packed after the boys’ competition. I wish people would stay and cheer for us. The atmosphere would be a bit better then, said Norwegian ski jumper Silje Opseth in an interview with Dagbladet.
The organizers are trying to bring women’s jumping to a higher level. The jumpers’ competition was shown on TV “prime time”. In addition, the players in the Raw Air cycle have to earn more than men. – The organizer should be praised for the time in which the competition was held and for trying to make our product more attractive. But apparently we’re not very interesting to watch. I also think it’s sad when a lot of people support us on social media, but it doesn’t show up when we actually have a home competition. I hope people will come to Oslo, Opseth continued.
– I understand why Silje is upset. And there is no criticism of the audience in this. It is rather a statement that the organizers and we who take care of the jumps have a great responsibility that the girls are taken seriously. We need to get more out of the potential than we’ve been able to do so far. But there’s not much we can do about it now. I’m prepared for it to happen again. I can only encourage people who are particularly fond of women’s jumps to mark this day on the calendar – adds the head of Norwegian ski jumping Clas Brede Braathen.
The big problem is that even some competitors do not take women’s jumping seriously. We could find out about it in the competition of mixes, where the Polish national team even disgraced themselves. “In the case of Piotr Żyła, it was obvious that his thoughts were completely outside the hill. You could not see any professionalism in him, which was shown even by the jump in the second round. Żyła flew only 116 meters and ostentatiously slapped on two legs. he failed this competition. And the fact that he did not approach the competition concentrated, he himself admitted in an interview for Eurosport “-
