In Russia, they wanted to hold an alternative Paralympic Games

In Russia, they wanted to hold an alternative Paralympics. It is reported by “Kommersant”.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko instructed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Sports to work out the issue of a possible holding of alternative Games for Paralympic athletes in Khanty-Mansiysk. The politician believes that all conditions for competitions have been created in Russia. “Paralympic athletes should not be deprived of the sporting event for which they have been preparing for several years,” he said.

On March 3, Russian Paralympic athletes were banned from participating in the Beijing Games. Initially, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) allowed the Russians to compete in a neutral status, but then changed the decision. The head of the IPC, Andrew Parsons, explained this by the position of other national committees, which opposed the participation of Russians in the Paralympics. He placed the responsibility on the governments of the countries.

Russian sports are facing sanctions against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine. In particular, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have deprived Russian national teams and clubs of tournaments under their auspices.
