The former head of the Moscow and Lokomotiv football clubs, Yuri Belous, predicted a pay cut for players playing in the Russian Premier League (RPL). His words are quoted by Business Online.
According to the functionary, the isolation of Russian football will seriously hit the league clubs, as they will be left without income for participating in European competitions. In addition, there may be a shortage of sponsorship royalties. Against this background, as Belous said, the salaries of football players may fall to the level of the 1990s.
Belous also noted that if the sanctions continue in the near future, the Russian championship is waiting for the outflow of players. Due to falling wages, they will seek to move to Europe.
Russian football was isolated: the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended domestic clubs and teams from participating in tournaments under their auspices.
