Veteran Higuaín talks about his career and rules out a future in football: “It’s not where I want to be”

Current player for Inter Miami, in the MLS, veteran Gonzalo Higuaín does not see his future close to the football field. At 34 years old, the Argentine revealed some of his frustrations with the sport and the difficulties experienced by the athlete.

“When you start playing, you think everything is beautiful. But when you start to know the backstage, evil, envy, jealousy… I already have everything I want, the most important thing, which is my wife and daughter. . “The football player only serves while playing. After that, no one calls you anymore. I’ve been saying that for years. It’s like a disposable bottle. It empties, they step on you and throw it away”, he added.

Despite a career full of titles, Higuaín has faced several criticisms over the years, especially after failing in decisive moments for the Argentine national team. Asked about his future, the athlete reinforced his desire to distance himself from football.

“I’m going to stay away from football. Too far away. I’m going to enjoy it only while I’m playing. It’s a very bad contamination. I don’t have pain or discomfort, but I feel that it’s not a world I want to be in”, he confessed.

The Argentine stressed that football players need to be humanized, because, according to him, sportsmen “have the same problems as other people”.

“People have no idea what a football player is. They think we play football and that’s it. We have a father, a mother, just like you. And we have the same problems that everyone else has”, said the striker who, a year ago, he lost his mother.

Close to retirement, Higuaín accumulates spells at Napoli, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus and River Plate. In total, 319 goals were scored, in 676 matches played.
