The head coach of the national football team Valery Karpin called for the expansion of the Russian Premier League (RPL). His words are quoted by Sport24.
According to Karpin, it is necessary to increase the number of teams in the championship. “We will not have European competitions and there will be no international breaks. You can play 30 rounds in six months, and what about the rest of the six months?” he said. At the same time, the specialist said that he could not name the exact number of teams that would have to compete.
Earlier, Karpin spoke about the emotional state of the players after being suspended from international competitions. He stated that the players are in shock because of the current situation. The coach noted that they consider the decision to remove the team from tournaments unfair.
On February 28, the International Football Federation (FIFA), together with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
