President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach spoke about the possibility of lifting sanctions against Russia. His words are quoted by Reuters.
The head of the IOC said that he leaves this issue open, as it is difficult to set a deadline for the suspension of Russian athletes. He considered it impossible to determine what could lead to the tightening or lifting of sanctions. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will adapt depending on further developments,” Bach said.
On February 28, the IOC called for the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions. The decision was made against the backdrop of a special Russian military operation in the Donbass.
After that, international federations imposed sanctions on domestic athletes. Russia was left without international competitions in almost all sports.
