Zhurova offered an alternative to the Paralympic Games for suspended Russian athletes

State Duma deputy, Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova commented on the exclusion of the Russian team from the Paralympics in Beijing. She is quoted by the Match TV website.

According to the parliamentarian, Russia can hold its own tournament instead of the Paralympic Games. “We can hold our own competitions, they will be interesting if the athletes show results that are not available at other world competitions,” she suggested an alternative.

Earlier on March 4, the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) explained the inability to challenge the suspension from the Games. The rules of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) do not allow the RPC to take this matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

On March 3, the IPC refused to allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. The decision was made due to the fact that the national committees opposed the participation of Russians in the competition.

Games will be held from 4 to 12 March. 71 athletes from Russia were supposed to take part in the competition.
