The Russian Football Union (RFU) will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decisions of international organizations to remove Russian national teams and clubs from tournaments. This was reported on the website of the union.
The RFU intends to appeal against the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), restore the Russian national teams in tournaments and seek compensation for damage if it is established.
The RFU statement notes that the decision to remove the Russian teams was made under pressure from direct rivals of the Russians in the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup. “This violated the principles of sport and fair play,” the statement said.
The plans of the RFU to appeal against the decision of FIFA and UEFA became known after the appearance of information about the suspension of national teams and clubs. Russian sport faced sanctions against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
