Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin spoke about the decision of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to remove Russian Paralympians from the 2022 Games in Beijing. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“The decision taken by the IPC today is a gross violation of the rights of athletes and manipulation of the values of the Olympic Charter for political purposes,” the minister said. He added that the Ministry of Sports is preparing a lawsuit to challenge the verdict of the international organization.
On March 3, the IPC refused to allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. The decision was made due to the fact that the national committees opposed the participation of Russians in the competition. At the same time, on March 2, the committee approved the participation of Russians in the Paralympics.
Games will be held from 4 to 12 March. 71 athletes from Russia were supposed to take part in the competition.
