The head coach of the Moscow “Spartak” Paolo Vanoli commented on the exclusion of the team from the Europa League. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Vanoli called the incident a severe psychological blow. “Spartak deserved to play in the Europa League, but we cannot influence the decisions. Now we must maintain concentration, ”the specialist said.
The coach noted that the team needs to achieve high results in the Russian Premier League and the Cup of the country. Vanoli stressed that his coaching staff will continue to work with the team.
Earlier, Spartak expressed disagreement with the decision to exclude the club from the League. “Sport, from our point of view, should build bridges, not burn them,” the team said in a statement. The club stressed that it was forced to comply with the decision.
On February 28, the International Football Federation (FIFA), together with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), announced the permanent exclusion of Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The Russian national football team also lost the chance to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
