The Russian Football Federation going to appeal to him Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) of Lausanne his exclusion from the Qatar World Cup-2022 and of all international competitions, that organization announced this Thursday in a statement.
Russia was initially to be measured at Poland on March 24 in Moscow, in the semifinals of their play-off for the World Cup. On Monday, the FIFA and the UEFA they excluded the Russians from all their competitions, as a reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian Federation will request that all men’s and women’s national teams return to all competitions and will ask the CAS “an accelerated procedure” about his case, given the proximity of the date initially planned for the duel against Poland, which has insisted that it will not play against the Russians under any pretext.
Those responsible for Russian football estimate that FIFA and UEFA acted “no legal basis” to decree their veto and that they made the decision “under pressure” from rival soccer federations, such as the Polish one. They also regretted not having been able to explain their point of view to both organizations.
On Monday, the Russian Football Federation had already denounced the “discriminatory” effects of the decision “for a large number of athletes, coaches, club employees or the national team.”
The 2022 World Cup, the great sporting event of the year, will be held from November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.
Russia was the host country for the previous edition of that event, held in 2018. (D)
