As in the first game the Paraguayan team had won by 1 to 0, the decision was for the collection of penalties and Coelho won, by 5 to 4.
“I believe this is one of the historic games of my career. It was an extremely difficult match, in which we were losing, but we never gave up. The group showed a lot of strength and concentration to seek the score and do well in the collections”, says Pedrinho, who arrived at the club recently and scored his first goal with the Coelho shirt.
“Very happy to have scored the goal, but the important thing was that we conquered our objective and we will continue in the dispute”, he concluded.
In normal time, Guaraní opened two to zero with Fernando Fernández and Cáceres. América-MG’s turnaround came in the second stage with Wellington Paulista, twice, and Pedrinho.
In the collections, they scored for Coelho: Wellington Paulista, Iago Maidana, Juan Ramírez, Rodolfo and Everaldo. Guaraní did it with Ayala, Ortíz, Ángel Benitez and Bareiro.
