Wis³a Kraków was humiliated in the Polish Cup, dropping out of the competition for the third time in a row after competing with the third-league driver. Blue Stargard turned out to be better two years ago, KSZO Ostrowiec a year ago, and today Olimpia Grudziądz. But the Polish Cup – or rather the lack of this trophy in the club showcase – is the smallest problem with Reymont today. At any moment, the club may fall to the first league for the first time in 28 years.
Brzęczek came to the Vistula too late? The trainer is not the problem
It seemed to be the best that could happen to the Vistula. In the Sport.pl LIVE program, its former president, Piotr Obidziński, even said that it was an ideal move to eliminate the owner’s problem in the locker room, which is Jakub Błaszczykowski.
Initially, Wisła was supposed to bring Brzęczek in 2021, but then the owners were afraid of the media’s reaction. The buzzer finally came, but maybe too late.
The former coach has a terrible start. In three matches (with Górnik Łęczna, Legia and Olimpia Grudziądz) Wisła scored only two goals, added a point to the league table and compromised herself in the Polish Cup. Despite the fact that every game she played against a theoretically weaker opponent.
Wisła Kraków is sinking, although it should not be “on paper”
However, it is hard to blame Brzęczek, who has barely managed to sit down in his office at Reymonta, and is already on a straight road to the first league. The owners and the entire sports division, which brought players who turned out to be simply weak to Krakow, were to blame for the situation of the Vistula River at the moment.
Jan Kliment, Stefan Savić, Dor Hugi, Matej Hanousek – each of them went to Wisła with a decent CV, each had the potential to become an important figure in the team. Why did they not live up to expectations? This question should also be answered by the sports division.
Explosive mixture. Another coach says the same
The decision of the authorities meant that Brzęczek is fighting to keep in the league with a group of young, inexperienced Poles and weak foreigners. The former selector – like his predecessor – is trying to move their consciences and strike an ambitious tone.
– There are players in our ranks who have to understand what club they play in, what they have to give him and in what situation we are. We have to solve some things ourselves, realizing that this is a shame for us. We know how disappointed our fans are. We are going through a very difficult moment for sure, but as a staff we now have to prepare the team for the next games. We also need to work on the mental sphere. This is a great, great shame for us – after the match with Olympia.
It is not surprising, however, that the players do not fully know where they are playing, if only in 2022 two Swedes, a Guinean, a Spaniard, a Czech, a Macedonian, a Dutch and a Serb, came to Wisła. And not a single Pole.
A revolution every six months and the cyclical weakening of the team
We counted that from the moment the club was saved in January 2019, as many as 54 (out of seven windows) players went to Wisła to strengthen the first team. This gives an average of nearly eight new players per round. This is a ready recipe for a revolution in the composition every six months.
Out of 54 transfers, we tried to count those that were successful and it turns out that the club really improved in quality only in the case of: Aschrafa el Maidoi (sold for EUR 2.4 million), Yawa Yeboah (sold for about EUR 2 million), Vukana Savicevicia (sold for around 500,000 euros). And also Alon Turgeman’s forward for six months and Michał Frydrych, who is still playing in Krakow. It also provided real quality for some time, but it is difficult to count it as a transfer.
The offensive lies and squeals. It takes a miracle to maintain it
Wisła has the greatest shortcomings in the attack today. In the match against the third-league Olympia, she developed fewer goal situations than her rival. In the first league, the team of Brzęczka, and Gula earlier scored 22 goals in 23 matches. Only Warta Poznań has less – 20. Fans complain the most about the attackers – Jan Kliment and Felicio Brown Forbs, who have been waiting for the league goal for six months. Kliment is only the 16th most scoring player in the league, which shows that the club is unable to work out a situation. And when he has them, the attackers will beat them spectacularly.
So it seemed that Wisła’s priority for the winter window would be to bring a mobile striker who could create a situation for himself and finish it off with a goal. Alon Tugeman’s Vienna, borrowed from Austria, is still mentioned at Wawel. Even though he was often injured, he scored seven goals and kept Wisła two years ago. Wisła did not attract anyone like that. It is true that 33-year-old Zdenek Ondrasek came, but he has been out of shape for a long time and is rather the same type of player as the other two forwards. Elvis Manu has also been pulled, but he is a winger who can play as a forward (three goals this season for Ludogorco when he was in position 9).
At the moment, his biggest advantage is that he has not had his debut yet and the fans can only hope that he will burn out.
In front of the Vistula – this must be heard: by far the worst team of 2022 – 11 matches of the truth. Considering the recent years and the fact that as many as three teams are dropping this season, at least 35 points will be needed to maintain it. If Wisła wants to stay on, then in the next 11 games he must score around 13-15 points. That is, more than half of the achievements that she gathered in 23 meetings.
To make matters worse, the next three matches will be a competition with the fifth Lechia (away), the leader Lech (home) and the second Pogoń (away). For Jerzy Brzęczek’s team, these will be matches of the truth. If the team of the recent general manager collects round zero points in this triptych, no one will be surprised.
