Néstor Pitana will referee the final of the Copa Libertadores 2021

The Argentine will be the central judge for the match between Palmeiras and Flamengo, to be played on November 27 in Uruguay.

The Argentinian Néstor Pitana is chosen to referee the final of the Copa Libertadores football, which will be played on November 27 in Montevideo by Brazilians Palmeiras and Flamengo, announced this Wednesday the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).

The referee will be seconded by his compatriots Juan Belatti and Gabriel Chade, while the referee in charge of the VAR will be the Chilean Julio Bascuñán.

Likewise, the assistants in the video arbitration will be the Argentine Germán Delfino, the Colombian Alexander Guzmán together with the Uruguayans Leodán González and Darío Ubríaco, while the Quality Manager will be the Chilean Carlos Astroza.

From November 20, Uruguay will be at the center of sports attention on the continent as a result of the celebration in Montevideo of the three main South American finals: The South American Cup and the men’s and women’s Libertadores Cups.

Both final instances of the men’s branch will take place in the mythical Centenario stadium, venue of the first World Cup in history (1930), while the women’s Libertadores will take place in the Gran Parque Central stadium.

These duels awaken the expectation of the authorities in the face of the massive arrival of tourists – since the country’s borders will reopen on November 1 after almost two years closed – and also puts an eye on security, since a wave of Brazilian fans is expected -mainly of the historical Flamengo and Palmeiras-.

Also, this Monday the Uruguayan National Sports Secretariat confirmed the expansion to 75% of the capacity allowed in stadiumsTherefore, the fans who will be able to access the finals will be about 45,000.

The Centenario Stadium will host on November 20 the final of the South American Cup between the Brazilians Athletico Paranaense and Red Bull Bragantino and, a week later, that of the Libertadores between Palmeiras and Flamengo, while the final of the women’s Libertadores -de the one for which the teams are still unknown – will be on November 21 in the Great Central Park.
