The American giant of video games Electronic Arts announced on Wednesday that it is withdrawing the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from the ultra-popular soccer simulation game FIFA 22 and its online and mobile versions.
“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like many other voices in the world of sport, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” the editor wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. The message immediately received thousands of ‘likes’ from Internet users.
EA Sports said to align “with FIFA and UEFA”, which on Monday decided the exclusion of Russia from the World Cup in Qatar-2022of all its teams and its clubs in international competitions “until further notice”.
The publisher has launched an update process for all its “EA Sports FIFA” products, especially “FIFA 2022″, “FIFA Mobile” and “FIFA Online”.
The Ukrainian Minister of Numerical Transformation, Mijailo Fedorov, has recently addressed several Western technology companies, including video game publishers, to encourage them to take measures that block Russian and Belarusian accounts of their services.
“In 2022, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to tanks and missiles,” he wrote, in an open letter to game publishers and e-Sports platforms. (D)
