Novak Djokovic, former world number one, and Slovakian coach Marjan Vajda confirmed that they have ended their cooperation, after 15 years of work and 20 Grand Slam titles for the Serbian tennis player.

“Marjan has been with me in the most important and unforgettable moments of my career. We have achieved some incredible things together and I am very grateful for her friendship and dedication over the past 15 years,” Djokovic said on his website.

The 34-year-old tennis player assured that Vajda “will always be part” of his family for everything he has done for him.

For his part, the coach indicated that during his work with Djokovic he had been “lucky enough to see how the player he is today was formed.”

“I will remember our cooperation with great pride and I am very grateful for the success we have achieved.”

I remain the greatest support for Novak on the court and off itand I am glad of the new challenges”, said who has been the coach of the Serbian tennis player since 2006, with a break of one year (April 2017 to April 2018).

Since 2019, Vajda, 56, has alternated with Croatian Goran Ivanisevic, who will continue working with Djokovic, when accompanying the Serbian tennis player to world tournaments.

Djokovic and Vajda decided to end their cooperation after the Turin tournament in November of last year, it is indicated in the note published on the web.

He adds that Vajda has had one of the crucial roles in Djokovic’s team and has made a great contribution to his winning 20 Grand Slam titles and achieving a record 361 weeks at the top of the ATP, where a few days ago he was replaced by the Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic’s performances in major tournaments this year are uncertain due to his decision not to get vaccinated against COVID-19, as immunization is mandatory to participate in various competitions.

Last January, the Australian immigration authorities expelled the tennis player due to his unvaccinated status, for which he could not defend the title at the Australian Open. (D)
