A possible buyer of the London Chelsea has become known. Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss could become the new owner of the English football club. The businessman himself told Blick about this.
Wyss said he has received an offer to buy the Premier League club and intends to make a decision within five days. He stressed that the current owner of the club, Roman Abramovich, is asking too much for him. “Chelsea owe him £2bn ($2.6bn – approx. “Tapes.ru”). But Chelsea have no money. The new owner will have to compensate Abramovich for this amount,” added the 86-year-old businessman.
Wyss is ranked 451st in the list of the richest people in the world according to Forbes. His fortune is estimated at 5.1 billion dollars. He is the founder of Synthes, a medical device manufacturer.
On February 26, Abramovich handed over the management of Chelsea to the trustees of the eponymous charitable foundation. Prior to this, The Independent reported that they want to deprive the billionaire of the ownership of the football club.
Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003. During this time, the club became the champion of England five times and twice – the winner of the Champions League and the Europa League.
