The group stage in the Russian Football Cup has ended. The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.
At the end of the stage, all 16 participants in the 1/8 finals of the tournament were determined. Even before the start of the drawing, the clubs of the Russian Premier League, which took places from first to fifth: Zenit, Spartak, Lokomotiv, Rubin and Sochi, got a ticket to the playoffs. The rest had to win their own group, each of which had three teams.
CSKA, Dynamo, Arsenal and Nizhny Novgorod joined the playoffs from the elite division of the Russian championship. Also in the 1/8 finals there are teams of the Football National League (FNL): Kuban, KAMAZ, Yenisei, Alania, Rotor and Baltika. The only representative of the second group of the FNL was “Chaika”.
The date of the draw will be announced by the Russian Football Union (RFU) on Thursday, 28 October. The 1/8 finals are to be held next March. The current title holder is Lokomotiv Moscow. The same team won the Cup the most – nine times.
