Colombia will host the 2022 Copa América Femenina

The tournament will deliver five places for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023, three directly and two to play the repechage phase.

Five months and seven days after the Conmebol announced the separation of Colombia as the venue for the Copa América that it had to organize with Argentina, the entity has decided to grant this Wednesday to the same Andean country the organization in 2022 of the ninth women’s edition of the tournament.

On May 20, 2021, Conmebol, chaired by Paraguayan Alejandro Domínguez, denied the Colombian government’s request to postpone the competition once again, which was originally supposed to take place in 2020 and was finally played this year in Brazil.

Domínguez announced this Wednesday on his Twitter account the Conmebol’s decision to grant Colombia the venue for the women’s Copa América next year. In addition, he reported that there will be a additional prize of half a million dollars, which will be distributed among the participating teams.

“The Conmebol Copa América Femenina is played in Colombia! The Council of Conmebol resolved to assign the organization of this tournament to the Colombian Soccer Federation, which will institute an additional prize of USD 500,000 to be distributed among the participating teams, ”wrote the president of the entity that groups together the soccer federations of ten South American countries.

On September 29, the president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Ramón Jesurún, announced that his country would participate in the bidding for the venue for the 2022 Copa América Femenina.

The tournament will give five places, three direct for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023, and two to play repechages.

The manager then guaranteed that Colombia “has everything: the disposition, the support and the resources” to host the tournament.

“This Copa América is very important because it qualifies for the World Cup and we, yes or yes, have to qualify,” added the FCF president.
