Tuesday is the fifth day of the Russian invasion of. Heavy fights are taking place in the country, and the number of casualties is also increasing among civilians. Dramatic reports of what is happening in Ukraine are coming from everywhere. In a conversation about the drama taking place in his country, Dmytro Doroszczuk, a handball player from the Gdańsk-based Torus Wybrzeże told about the drama.
– A friend from Melitopol is sitting in the basement. The Ukrainian army rode up from one side of his house, and the Russian army on the other, and the fighting was literally over his head. He is in the middle. Two days ago, he was sending me messages. He was running out of battery. It’s hard to support a friend who says during a conversation that he has nothing and tanks are going towards him. After that, I had no contact with him anymore. The family of another friend, who has been playing in one of the Arab leagues, has been sitting in the basement of a building in Brovary near Kiev for three days, where fierce fighting is taking place. He was talking to loved ones and during the conversation he saw everything shake. In addition, there are a lot of saboteurs around, the Russians dress up in Ukrainian uniforms, the threat to civilians is enormous – says Doroszczuk.
“I lost many colleagues from Russia, some of them I considered friends”
Help for refugees from Ukraine is organized all over the place. Tens of thousands of people are headed towards the border. Poles organize collections and provide Ukrainians with transport and shelter. – I am very happy that, above all, Poland helps us a lot and lets people in at the border. Every day there are tens of thousands of people there who save their families and children. The barricades have been removed from the border, so thank you very much, great respect for you, because you not only gave us your hand, but also your heart. I would like to thank every Pole who supports and helps us. Even if someone only thinks well about Ukraine, I would also like to thank him very much – said the Ukrainian.
Countries around the world impose sanctions on Russia. These also include sports. More and more sports unions from different countries do not want to compete with. The Russians defend themselves by saying that sport should not be confused with politics. – Until 2014 I also thought that, and now I know that sport is, in a way, an instrument of propaganda. The whole world has to show the Russians what is happening, because if this does not end, many people will die. he has to help with it, this is one of the tools – replies the handball player.
Some Russian athletes spoke out against the war. However, these are isolated cases. Doroszczuk revealed that his Russian friends did not even contact him. – Now this conflict has started and only one friend of mine, I can even call him my brother from Russia, speaks to me. The rest of the people didn’t even think about asking if there was anything to help or what the situation was like. This colleague told me that he was forbidden to speak on the matter and revealed that the narrative was such that it was just an intervention, no war. Russians are also afraid of Putin and the services. I also talked to other colleagues from Ukraine who played with the Russians, and few are interested in what is happening with us. I lost many colleagues from Russia, some of them I considered friends. This situation showed how much their talk beforehand was worth. I have one Russian friend left, he said.
