The Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin said that the department is working to minimize the damage from sanctions against domestic athletes. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“Those orders given by the President will be fulfilled. We have begun hourly work with federations to minimize the risks of disrupting the calendar and non-participation of our athletes in international competitions,” Matytsin said. The head of the Ministry of Sports added that they plan to allocate 3.4 billion rubles allocated for the fourth quarter for children and youth sports, as well as for holding events.

Earlier it became known that the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions under its auspices. The sanctions will affect figure skating, speed skating and short track.

On February 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that the federations deprive athletes from Russia and Belarus of the right to participate in competitions against the backdrop of a special military operation in the Donbass. At the same time, athletes will be able to compete in a neutral status.
