The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has condemned the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to remove the Russian national team from participation in international matches. The organization’s reaction is given on its website.
“The Russian Ice Hockey Federation considers this decision to be discriminatory and contrary to the spirit of the sport. Sport has always served the purpose of uniting the peoples of different countries and continents, regardless of any differences and disagreements,” the statement says. The FHR also stressed that they reserve the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The IIHF suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participation in international matches on February 28. The restriction is imposed for an indefinite period. In addition, Russia will not host the World Youth Championships in Novosibirsk and Omsk in 2023.
The restriction applies to national teams of all age categories. It will also apply to professional clubs. In particular, the Belarusian “Gomel” will not be able to take part in the Continental Cup.
