Spartak Moscow rejects exclusion from the Europa League

The Moscow Spartak issued a statement on Monday in which shows his disgust at being eliminated from the Europa League after one UEFA and FIFA decision with which they assure that he does not agree, but must abide by, and assures that sport “must build bridges, not burn them”.

FIFA and UEFA decided this Monday, jointly, suspend Russian national teams and clubs to participate in the competitions of both until further notice.

Thus, the Spartak is excluded of the current Europa League competition, so the tie for round of 16 against Leipzig, which were scheduled for March 10 and 17, will not be played. The German team automatically qualifies for the quarterfinals.

The decision of FIFA and UEFA has upset us, although it was to be expected. Unfortunately, our team’s efforts in this Europa League competition are undermined for reasons as far removed from sport as possible.”

“Spartak has millions of fans not only in Russia, but all over the world. Our successes and failures unite people from dozens of different countriesand even in the most difficult moments the sport, from the point of view of the club, must build bridges, not burn them”, he adds.

“Another decision has been made that we do not agree with but that we have to abide by. Spartak will focus on playing the Russian championship and the Cup of the country. We hope to achieve the peace that we all need as soon as possible”, he concludes. (D)
