Leeds announce the arrival of former Leipzig coach after Marcelo Bielsa leaves

Leeds United announced on Monday the arrival of coach Jesse Marsch, who has signed a contract until June 2025. After a spell at RB Leipzigthe American replaces the Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, fired last Sunday after bad results.

“I am very excited, I know Leeds are a great club, I know former players who have been here and I have been watching the team for many years. I am very honored to be here. One of the things I love about this team right now is their commitment regardless of how difficult the games are. Play to the end, fight for everyone, never stop and give everything at all times”, declared the coach to the LUTV.

“My style of play, my aggressiveness and the desire I have for teams to be intense and run and make things difficult for the opponent is in line with what has been done here for three and a half years. I have to identify how to do the important things and the simple things right away, before building the complexity going forward.”

After starting his career in the United States, Marsch coached Red Bull Salzburg before taking charge of RB Leipzig this season following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann at the Bayern Munchen. The performance on German soil, however, was not positive: 20 games, seven wins, four draws and nine defeats. In this way, he left the club in December 2021.

Finally, the American commander also praised Bielsa and spoke about his importance in the English team.

“My respect and admiration for Marcelo Bielsa is enormous. I followed his career and saw what he did. Certainly he is a hero here. How he helped transform Leeds United into a Premier League team is pretty amazing,” he commented.

Jesse Marsch will be on the sidelines for Leeds on Saturday at 9:30 am (GMT) when he faces Leicester Cityaway from home, for the 28th round of the English Premier League. The visiting team occupies the 16th position in the table and has 23 points – two more than Burnley, the first team in the relegation zone.
