The Russian Football Union (RFU) issued a statement regarding the exclusion of domestic teams from international tournaments. The text is available on the organization’s website.
The RFU called the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) unacceptable. “It is contrary to the norms and principles of international competition and the spirit of sports,” the statement said.
The statement confirms recent information about the intention to apply to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Earlier, “Championship, com” announced the plans of the RFU to appeal the decision of FIFA.
FIFA, together with UEFA, decided to exclude Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Thus, the Russian national team lost its chances to participate in the World Cup in Qatar, and Spartak Moscow finished playing in the Europa League. In the 1/8 finals of the European Cup, Muscovites were supposed to play with RB Leipzig.
