The International Football Federation (FIFA) plans to deprive the Russian team of the right to participate in major tournaments. This became known to Reuters.
The Russian national team may be suspended from participation in international tournaments against the backdrop of a military special operation of the Russian Armed Forces to protect Donbass. FIFA has started negotiations with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on this issue. According to the report, the final decision may be made on February 28.
Earlier, FIFA imposed a number of bans on Russian national teams. Domestic teams at the international level must play under the auspices of the Russian Football Union (RFU). Matches are prohibited on their territory. Meetings of domestic teams must be held on neutral fields and without spectators. The use of the flag, anthem and national symbols has also been banned.
The Russian national team was supposed to participate in the play-offs for access to the World Cup in Qatar. The teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden expressed their unwillingness to play with Russian players.
