The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov expressed the organization’s position regarding the recommendation of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which called for the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international starts. The words of the head of the ROC are quoted by the committee’s website.
Pozdnyakov stressed that he had carefully studied the recommendations of the IOC to the national federations. He noted that the ROC categorically disagrees with this position. “Athletes are the heart of the Olympic movement, their rights are above all,” he added.
According to Pozdnyakov, the position of the IOC contradicts the regulatory documents of the organization and the Charter. The head of the ROC stressed that the recommendations do not correspond to the spirit of the Olympic movement.
Earlier, the IOC executive committee recommended that national federations not allow athletes from Belarus and Russia to participate in competitions against the backdrop of a military special operation of the Russian Federation.
