Coach says Eriksen wants to be treated like ‘a normal player’

The modest Brentford’s last game for English Premier League was marked by an important event. Christian Eriksen returned to the pitch after 259 days of his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020but his coach wants him to be treated normally.

Despite the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, the midfielder’s entry seven minutes into the second half was the most important thing that happened in the match. Cheered by the entire stadium, the Dane finally returned.

At the end of the game, the team’s commander, Thomas Franck, spoke about his countryman and how he should be treated from that moment on.

“I understand the circumstances that make Christian’s return a media event. But now that he’s played his first game, he just wants to talk about football and not what happened in June of last year. He wants to be treated like a normal player, even though he knows he never will be, given what he’s been through.”

“For everyone who loves football it was fantastic to see the reception he received, it was a great moment for Christian and his family. Now he just has to ‘talk’ with his feet,” he added.

In an interview while still on the field, the midfielder himself said what it was like to return to acting.

“Being on the pitch for the first time is something very special. I will always have this experience with me, but now it’s time to make new memories and look to the future.”

Brentford enters the field on Saturday, February 5th, against Norwich in the Premier League.
