Russian mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Khabib Nurmagomedov said he had discussed the future of Islam Makhachev with the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Dana White. The Russian appeared on the air of ESPN MMA.
33-year-old Nurmagomedov noted that the UFC intends to organize a fight between Makhachev and the winner of the confrontation between the reigning lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and American Justin Gaethje. Thus, White made it clear that he was considering Makhachev as a contender for the belt.
Makhachev was stronger than Bobby Green at the UFC tournament in Las Vegas. The Russian extended the series of victories in the organization to ten fights.
Initially, Beneil Dariush was supposed to be Makhachev’s rival. However, the American was injured and was forced to withdraw from the fight.
Oliveira and Gaethje will compete for the title in May. The fight will take place at the UFC tournament in Brazil.
