UEFA made a decision on matches in Russia. Scandalous

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues. On Thursday evening, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on universal mobilization, and therefore men aged 18-60 are prohibited from leaving the country.

At first, UEFA called the Russian invasion “a development of the situation between Russia and Ukraine”, which was met with a huge wave of criticism. Later, the European federation expressed concern about the military invasion of Ukraine and announced that it would take binding decisions that would be supported by the UEFA Executive Committee. The war between Russia and Ukraine also affects sport, incl. to play-offs for promotion to the World Cup in Qatar.

Officially: Russia-Poland play-off will not be played in Moscow. But the game is to be played

The extraordinary UEFA meeting is behind us. The local Executive Committee has decided that the Russian and Ukrainian clubs and their teams will play in “home games” under the aegis of UEFA on neutral ground until further notice. This, therefore, means that the Russians were not excluded from the fight for the World Cup to be held in Qatar at the end of 2022, and thus UEFA makes it clear that it will not react firmly to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This decision by UEFA can be directly considered scandalous. On Thursday, FIFA decided, and more specifically politicians, in the activities of the football federations. Thus, the world football federation made it clear that in such situations they are equal and more equal. Will Poland play the play-off match with Russia in Moscow? In this case, wait for FIFA’s decision,.

“UEFA’s decision does NOT concern the play-off match Russia – Poland. This is FIFA competition and FIFA has to make such a decision. There are many indications that it will at least copy it, but we have to wait for official information,” Seweryn wrote.

On Thursday, the Polish Football Association, together with Sweden and the Czech Republic, issued a statement in which it announced that neither team intends to play in Russia. “The signatories of this appeal do not take into account the trip to Russia and playing football matches there. The military escalation that we are observing has serious consequences and a significant reduction in the level of security for our national teams” – we read. It turns out that the Poles wanted to include a sentence condemning aggression there.

So where will the play-off take place? The president of the Polish Football Association said in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy that he was ready to organize a match in Poland. – In terms of organization, we are ready to play this match at home. But I would not be ready for such a solution – said Kulesza.
