Eriksen is linked by Brentford manager after heart attack

Eight months after suffering cardiac arrest midway through a Euro CupDanish midfielder Christian Eriksen has been added to Brentford’s squad for Sunday’s match of English Premier League against Newcastle, announced manager Thomas Franck.

“Christian will be on the team and will take the field tomorrow (Saturday),” Franck said. “It’s a big day for all of us, but especially for Christian and his family,” he continued.

Eriksen, who signed for Brentford on the last day of the winter transfer market, has already played a few minutes with his new team in a friendly on 14 February, when the Dane celebrated his 30th birthday.

The midfielder suffered a heart attack in the opening match of the European Championship, on June 12, during the match between Denmark and Finland. He fell to the ground and had to be resuscitated on the lawn before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Since then, he has lived with a defibrillator, which forced him to terminate his contract with the Inter Milanhis former club, since the Italian professional league considers this type of device incompatible with the practice of football, unlike what happens in England.

Thomas Franck, also from Denmark, explained on 3 February that Eriksen will be able to play in the “weeks” to come, gradually
