The young Czech Vacek surprises in Dubai; Pogacar continues to lead

After a shared getaway from start to finish, the 19-year-old Czech Mathias Vack (Gazprom) won the sixth stage of the UAE Tour, which started and finished in Dubai with a distance of 180 kilometres, the day before the Jebel Hafeet mountain stage, where the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) hopes to renew the title in force.

It happens rarely, but the modest ones also dream of success in the World Tour events, and this time in Dubai the law of the strongest was not fulfilled and 5 riders were able to take down an entire peloton. The initial breakaway of 6 runners came together and in the end, a young Czech named Mathias Vack raised his arms for the first time as a professional.

Vacek prevailed over another young boy, the 22-year-old Frenchman Paul Lapeira (Ag2r Citroen) and his teammate the Russian Dmitry Strakhov (Gazprom). In total, the Russian squad placed three runners among the first five places of the day.

The platoon showed up 15 seconds late, with Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Fenix) in front, followed by his natural sprint rivals, Groenewegen and Ackermann. They all lost the final speed option.

This Saturday the Emirati round ends with the seventh stage between Al Ain and Jebel Hafeet, 148 kilometers. Last chance for the general dispute in the ascent to the finish line of 11 kilometers with a 6.7 percent gradient. Pogacar against everyone in the defense of the red jersey and the current title achieved in 2021.
