On Friday at 14:00 Hubert Hurkacz will play with Andrei Rublev in the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tennis tournament in Dubai. However, the Polish rival’s thoughts are not about the match, but about what is happening in Ukraine due to Russian aggression.

After Russia’s attack on Ukraine on Thursday morning, Rublev posted graphics of two characters in the colors of both countries on social media. Graphics where these characters hug each other. “Ukraine and Russia are closely related to each other, we are fraternal nations” – we read under what he posted on the Rublev network.

Rublev under attack on the web

In an interview with journalists in Dubai, the Russian told the difficult situation he found himself in. – At such moments you realize that your match is not important. What is happening is much more terrible. You realize the importance of world peace and mutual respect no matter what. It is about taking care of our earth and each other. This is the most important – said Rublow, quoted by the portal france24.com.

The Russian added that due to his activity in the subject, he received offensive messages from his countrymen. – Of course I get aggressive comments on the internet because I am Russian. Even if they throw stones at me, I have to show that I am for peace, I am not here to be aggressive, even if I am not responsible for something – said Rublev.

The Russian is currently the 7th ATP tennis player. Rublev is the Olympic champion from Tokyo in mixed game. The tennis player won the tournament in tandem with his compatriot – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
